The Last Condom Foundation, a social media group located at Dzodze near the Akanu Border, is made up of over 1,200 members. The Foundation invited the Aflao Intervention Unit, which operates under the auspices of the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Organization, to participate in their recent hangout event.
The main objective of the Last Condom Foundation is to educate the public to always carry their « Last Condom » in their pocket. This ensures that, in the event of engaging in sexual activity, individuals are not left without protection, as they will already have a condom with them. The foundation was formed in response to the rising HIV/AIDS rates in the Ketu North Municipality.
Upon our arrival, the members warmly welcomed us. They were pleased with our presence, as their objectives aligned closely with ours. This provided a valuable opportunity for us to educate them further on condom usage and other HIV/AIDS-related issues.
The team from the Aflao Intervention Unit, made up of the Co-ordinator Mac Thompson Gbeti and the Counselor Miss Priscilla Delali Kportsima, addressed the following topics:
Correct and systematic use of both male and female condoms
Benefits of using condoms during sexual activity
Basic education on STIs, HIV, and AIDS
Visual presentation of STI symptoms
Importance of knowing one’s HIV status
Other health-related topics
Introduction to the mission and activities of our Unit
After the educational and sensitization sessions, an open forum was held where members of the Foundation asked questions to clarify messages. Some members were asked to perform role plays demonstrating how to use male condoms using a penile model and how to use female condoms (Femidom). This helped us assess their understanding and readiness to apply the knowledge shared.
At the end of the session, each participant received packets of condoms for personal use.
